Flexibility on Space Usage

Members Needing More Space

At Camgrain, we understand that some members may experience a bumper crop and require more space than their committed tonnage allows. To help accommodate those larger harvests, we offer a flexible over-delivery option.

Over-Delivery for Additional Tonnage:

  • 25% Above Committed Tonnage: Members can send in up to 25% more than their committed tonnage as long as they inform us by 31 May 2025. For this, there will be a small £3 per ton supplement to cover additional handling and storage.
  • Extra Load for Full Members: All full members can send in one extra load without incurring any supplement, just the standard handling cost.
  • Late Notice and Harvest Over-Delivery: If you inform us after 31 May 2025 or at harvest that you need to over-deliver, the normal £5.50 per ton over-delivery charge will apply. This charge helps cover the costs associated with accommodating excess tonnage. Please note, the ability to accept over-deliveries is subject to space availability and harvest conditions, particularly with a full store at harvest.

Whether it’s a bumper crop or simply a need for additional storage space, our over-delivery options provide flexibility while ensuring that your extra tonnage is managed efficiently within the cooperative. Planning ahead and communicating early ensures that your grain can be stored with minimal impact on your costs.

Members Needing Less Space

We understand that circumstances change and sometimes members may not require all of their committed tonnage for the upcoming harvest. To help accommodate these situations, we offer a flexible return policy for members who may need less space in their storage.

Handing Back Tonnage:

Members who inform us by 31 May 2025 that they do not wish to use all of their committed tonnage can hand back up to 25% of their allocated storage for the 2025 harvest meaning:

  • No handling charge for the returned 25% of tonnage.

After 31 May:

After 31 May 2025, members who have not informed us about their reduced tonnage requirements will be invoiced for their full committed tonnage. This is because, by this time, Camgrain’s harvest space utilisation plan will have been finalised, and the intake has been allocated accordingly.

Borrowing and Lending Section:

In addition to handing back tonnage, our Borrowing and Lending Section illustrates how members can lend out up to 100% of their committed tonnage, avoiding handling charges where Camgrain has successfully lent the tonnage to another member. This allows for maximum flexibility in managing your grain storage and ensures that your tonnage is used effectively within the cooperative.

Borrowing and Lending

  • This matching process allows (subject to supply and demand) Camgrain to match members who inform us by 31 May of their inability to use their tonnage, with members who wish to use more tonnage.
  • If there is more lending than borrowing Camgrain have a set of prioritisation criteria. In many cases this allows Camgrain to avoid charging anything to members who are unable to use their tonnage
  • Borrowers will pay a £3 per ton borrowing charge.
  • Members can privately arrange to lend and borrow between themselves. Camgrain will need to be informed. In this situation no additional charge is made to borrowers and lenders will not pay a handling charge, where it has been paid by the borrower.

Off-Peak Over Delivery

In response to member feedback, in 2024/5 we trialled an off-peak over-delivery option, allowing members to send in additional crop once we've started to outload some of the harvest intake. This option offered lower handling costs at a reduced rate of £5 per ton, plus haulage charges (instead of the standard £9.90 per ton handling charge).

2026 Plan – Continued Flexibility:

  • From January 2026, we plan to continue offering this off-peak over-delivery flexibility to members.
  • Premium crops will be directed into an adjusted late pool, while feed products can also be direct marketed to our trusted partners.

This off-peak option gives members an opportunity to save on handling costs when Camgrain is storing their crop during the quieter months, once the harvest intake has been processed.

Subject to Availability:

As always, this arrangement is subject to availability and Camgrain's agreement on any proposed delivery home. We also want to highlight that additional direct market charges may apply for any crops sent directly to the market outside of the standard pools.
